Святой Модест патриарх Иерусалимский, с 9 клеймами жития

18 век. Русский Север

Дерево, левкас, темпера. 106,5х87,6 см.


Справа - стоящий в холмистом пейзаже патриарх Модест (по надписи - архиепископ), взор которого обращен к Троице Новозаветной, восседающей в небесах. Внизу слева - 9 клейм жития Модеста: 1. Осуждение отца св. Модеста правителем Максимианом за исповедание христианства. 2. Смерть родителей Модеста в темнице. 3. Плач Модеста над гробом родителей. 4. Явление огненного столпа при крещении Модеста. 5. Модест исцеляет брата среброкузнеца от смертного недуга. 6. Сыновья среброкузнеца продают Модеста в рабство египтянину. Модест исцеляет своего хозяина. 7. Модест молится о здоровьи скота. 8. Модест именем Божьим заклинает беса, явившегося в песьем образе. 9. Модест прощает и одаривает детей среброкузнеца. Икона является интересным по иконографии памятником провинциальной иконописи первой половины XVIII в.
