The following are furthercontra-indications, as suggested byFoUen Cabot and Henr\^ G. Spooner,in Med. Record, July 11, 1903:When it is ob\dous that operativeinter\ention would be useless; whenthere is a large tumor; in acutecystitis; in tuberculosis in whichthe diagnosis is e\ddent without thecystoscope. In women, pelvic adhe-sions and large exudates may inter-fere with CN^stoscopy. Technic of Cystoscopy.—^The patient should, if possible, be carefully soundedonce a day for several days previous to the cystoscopic examination; this estab-lishes tolerance of the urethra. He should be placed upon a suitable table,such as that de\ised by Tilden Brown or Bransford Lewis, as sho-vsTi in Fig. 868. The urethra is cleaned by irrigation with salt solution. General anesthe-sia is rarely necessary provided the operator is gentle in his manipiilations.
