They complained chiefly of paroxysmal cough, with thick,yellow expectoration, and much shortness of breath on exertion. On physical exam-ination of the chest, emphysema was detected, with or without a little rhonchus of thebases behind. They were., in fact, ordinary cases of winter-cough. The fluid extract ofChekan was ordered in two-drachm doses in a little water every four hours, the doseusually beiug increased at the expiration of a week to half an ounce. The medicinewas always taken without difficulty. In all cases the patient obtained some benefit,and in most instances the relief was very marked. There was in a few days a decidedimprovement in the cough, expectoration was from the first easier and soon diminishedin quantity, and finally the dyspnoea was less. Clinical reports from private and hospital practice promptly forwarded uponrequest, and samples to physicians who will defray expressage. PARKE, DAVIS & CO. Detroit, New York, Kansas City, U. S. I THE ; SANITARIUM HOSPITAL. This is a Hospital of 150 Beds, erected and managed in connection withthe Sanitarium at Battle Creek, Mich. The purpose of the managersin its erection has been to supply surgical cases with all the advantagesof a Sanitarium, in addition to those of a thoroughly equipped hospital.Among these may be mentioned, as of great importance, the thoroughpreparation of the patient by the aid of baths, massage, electrical ap-plications of various sorts, rest cure, etc., together with appropriate lo-cal treatment, as required, especially in gynecological cases. The advantages of such treatment as may be administered in a well-conducted Sanitarium after the operation, will certainly be appreciatedby every surgeon. By the aid of these means, the period of convales-cence is shortened, the benefits of the operation enhanced, and the pa-tients recovery expedited.
