The exhaust from tlie high-pressure cylinder passes down through the legs to the receiver, which is cast as part of the low-pressure cvliiuler and includes the jacket-space of that cyl-inder. From the low-pressure cylinder tlie exhaust goes through a large rectangular passageto the condenser, which is situated midwav between the two low-pressure cylniders. A smallpump returns the water of condensation from the jackets to the boilers. But one air-pumpi-; emploved which is driven bv a return rod from one of the crank-pins. The main shaft is16 in. diameter at the center or wheel lit, and 1:5 in. at the journals. The band fly-wheel is25 ft in diameter, built up in ten segments. It has a face of 6 ft. 2 in., turned for two 28-m.belts and one 10-in. belt. The weight of the llv-whecl is 73.000 lbs.
