Title
Modern ceramic kiln furniture "stilt"
Description
English: A ceramic "stilt", an item of kiln furniture dating from about AD 1750 - 1950. It is triangular in plan and one face is a pyramid with concave faces. The reverse has a circular hollow in the centre and a pointed leg or projection at each corner. It is made of cream coloured glazed ceramic, cracked in the hollow. It is 20.8mm long, 19.7mm wide and 12mm thick. 2.1g.

The stilt would have been used to separate flatware in a kiln. Similar examples were discovered at Bretby, in a site dating from the late 19th-20th century (Maria Kneafsey pers. comm., October 2020). Compare also NLM-A06563.
