Description |
English: Modern composite button with press moulded brass front, seperate plain back and seperate copper alloy loop. A uniform button of the London, Brighton and South Coast Railway in the early style dating 1846-1888 AD. The front has four oval shields arranged in a cross with leaves between. The shields are: a cross quartering the shield with a sword in top right quarter (top) representing London; two dolphins (bottom) for Brighton, the three half-lions/half-ships (right) of the Cinque Ports, and the star and crescent (left) of Portsmouth. Around the edge is: LONDON BRIGHTON AND SOUTH COAST RAILWAY 1846. It is 15.4mm in diameter, 4.2mm thick and weighs 1.18 grams. |
