Title
Modern Toy Soldier fragment
Description
English: Lead Alloy Toy Soldier fragment. Solid cast semi-flat figure of c.25mm scale representing the naturalistically modelled horse of a light cavalryman in Western European uniform. The figure is identifiable by its saddlecloth detail and blanket roll. The rider is lost, and appears to have been modelled separately; a hole of diameter c.2mm in the saddle would have received a pin projecting from between the rider's thighs. The lower legs, head and tail of the horse are also lost, and it is patinated overall . The manufacture of flat and semi-flat toy soldiers was a German speciality for which Nuremburg was an important centre. These would often be made to a high standard of detail and accuracy. This toy would have been imported before the First World War, and is one of several broken toys reported from the same location. Suggested date: Modern, 1880-1914.

Length: 30.5mm, Height: 23.4mm, Thickness: 4.5mm, Weight: 9.63gms.
