Welter 1383. Christian the Younger, Duke of Brunswick-Lüneburg and Bishop of Halberstadt, 1616 - 1626. He was a German Protestant military leader during the Thirty Years' War. During the war, he earned a reputation as a dangerous fanatic. He picked up a holy treasure from the dioceses of Münster and Paderborn, and minted this "Pfaffenfeindthaler" in 1622 to pay his troops. This Thaler is a typical war coin, like the siege coins. 4 lines: "GOTTES FREVNDT DER PFAFFEN FEINDT", around: "* CHRISTIAN· HERTZ: ZV· BRAVNSCHW: V: LVNEB: *". Pnnched: "NP 25"/ Arm out of clowds, holding sword upright, on top a Jesuit's hat. Around: "* TOVT · AVEC · DIEV · 1·6·22· *". Condition: EXTREMELY FINE. |
