Title
Modern Promotional Novelty
Description
English: Lead alloy toy. A hollow-cast bird modelled standing in a costume of scarlet trousers and white vest; the head is lost. The figure retains a white undercoat and extensive traces of red and black paint, the latter applied to the back and to short wings against the body. The anthropomorphic aspect might suggest this to represent the Guinness Toucan, a promotional creature invented in1935 and popular ever after. Some details depart from the usual depiction of the toucan, for example its erect tail - difficult to retain for such a model - and the extent of its red rump. So, with the head missing, it remains possible that a penguin was intended, albeit influenced by that more iconic bird. The good surface condition also argues for a recent date. Suggested date: Modern, 1950-1960.

Height: 27.5mm, Width: 9.9mm, Weight: 5.70gms.
