Español: único moai que posee ojos de toda la isla. Se piensa que cuando un moai era instalado en su ahu, se le tallaban las cuencas de los ojos y, en una ceremonia ritual, se le colocaban los ojos fabricados con coral blanco y pupilas de obsidiana. En ese momento se consideraba que la estatua cobraba vida y podía proyectar el mana o poder espiritual para proteger a su tribu. Por eso, todos los moai miran hacia el interior de la isla, como en Tahai, que es dónde estaban los poblados y sus habitantes, y no hacia el océano.
English: Only moai that has eyes of the whole island. It is thought that when a moai was installed in his ahu, the eye sockets were carved and, in a ritual ceremony, his eyes were made of white coral and obsidian pupils. At that time it was considered that the statue came alive and could project the mana or spiritual power to protect their tribe. Therefore, all the moai look towards the interior of the island, as in Tahai, which is where the villages and their inhabitants were, and not to the ocean. |
