Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The oak sculpture called "Monk" was created in August 2019 at a sculpture symposium in Bratřínov. It was unveiled in front of the church wall in Mníšek pod Brdy on Sunday 1 December 2019. Its author is the Czech sculptor and painter Jitka Kůsová (* 28 June 1962, Chomutov; née Valevská) from Klášterec nad Ohří. A wooden statue of a meditating monk with closed eyes, sowing grain and symbolically spreading faith and education (according to the motto of the Benedictine monastic order: Ora et labora - Pray and work) reminds us of the legend according to which Benedictine monks from the monastery on Ostrov near Davle helped in the construction of the new settlement (Mníšek pod Brdy) by providing wood for the construction of the village. The settlement was called Mníšek by its inhabitants out of gratitude for this help.
