Description

Mjölken såldes i små lokala mjölkbutiker.

English: Mjölkcentralen, later Arla, established the dairy in 1884. Strategically close to the railway. The small dairy was replaced in the 1920s by a larger one. After the creation of a modern headquarters in the 1980s, the facility occupied almost the entire neighborhood. In 2005, Arla moved out.

The background of the Dairy Center At the end of the 19th century, Stockholm grew enormously. Demand for milk increased. A system of milk renders was developed, where distribution and sales were handled by dairies in the city. Over time, thoughts of centralization arose. In 1915, farmers joined forces and formed an economic association called Mjölkcentralen, "MC". MC eventually became a leading producer of dairy products.

The milk was sold in small local dairy shops. As early as 1890, there were just over 1,100 dairy shops in Stockholm. In the 1950s, they were still a common feature of the cityscape.

The range in the dairy shops was limited. For hygiene reasons, the sale of other foods in the same premises was prohibited. In 1953, a new health care charter came when the cooling possibilities had improved. The development went quickly towards grocery stores and supermarkets.

The delivery of milk was initially done by horse and cart. When MC's new dairy was inaugurated in 1921, there were 250 horses in the stable and its own farm. It was not until 1935 that the distribution cars were more than the horses.

The milk packaging has changed. From large tin jugs and glass vessels to smaller glass bottles that were refilled in the dairy shop. From the mid-1960s, the Tetra Pak knocks out the glass bottles. The tetras were less space consuming
