Das Schnitzwerk in Rankweil reicht nicht zum Alter jener beiden Alterthümer hinauf, derenFiguren in den unnatürlich langgeftreckten fteifen Formen früherer Zeit ausgeführt find ; wennauch der Lendenfchurz noch bis zum Knie reicht, im Ausdruck und in der Lage des Gekreuzigtenjeder Effect peinlicher Leiden vermieden erfcheint, fo treten doch Anzeichen fpäteren Plntftehenshervor. Es find diefs das Fehlen des Subpedaneums, der Krone, fowie — im Gegenfatz zu denzwei andern Kreuzen — die Darfteilung Chrifti als bärtig. Ilher als im i: Jahrhundert dürfte dasbefchriebene Schnitzwerk im Anfange des 13. Jahrhundert entftanden fein. Rankweil.
