90jährige Juglans nigra im „Exotischen Garten^ zu Hohenheim. Nach den Angaben des Porst-amts Hohenheim beträgt: die Scheitelhöhe 32 m, die Länge des astreinen Schaftes 9 m, der Durch-messer in Brusthöhe 89 cm, die Derbholzmasse 10,5 fm. Nr. 21. Anbauversuche mit fremdl. Holzarten in Württemberg. 51

90jährige Juglans nigra im Exotischen Garten zu Hohenheim mit 32 m Scheitelhöhe. 4* 52 H. Holland: 1912. Lockerung des Schlusses von vortrefflichem Erfolg, da sie dann die Standfestigkeit,die ihre üppige Belaubung erfordert, erreicht. Im Forstbezirk Hohenheim muß die Hickory auf den Versuchsfiächen nachanfänglich sehr langsamem Wachstum nunmehr an Pfählen aufgebunden werden, dadie stark belaubten Kronen in dem durchschnittlich 6 m hohen Bestand bei einemmittleren Durchmesser der Stämme von 4 cm sich umbiegen. Trotz der bis jetzt unsicheren Erfolge wird auch diese Holzart in den klimatischmilderen Gegenden des Landes auf lehmigem, der Eiche zusagendem Sandboden ingleichem Maße wie die Schwarznuß weiterer Anbau versuche wert sein. Die im Holz geringwertigere Carya amara (Bitternuß)zeigt im Forstbezirk Gomaringen auf einer 12 a großen Anbaufläche im Alter von 21 Jahren eine mittlere Höhe von 8 m und eine mittlere Stärke von 3,5 cm.
