Summary

[edit]
Description

c/n 403. Essentially a copy of the German Me-163, the J8M would have been the Ki-200 in Army service, had it got that far. I believe the name ‘Shusui’ translates poetically as ‘Sharp Sword’. This example is one of two survivors and was captured at the Mitsubishi factory in Nagoya, Japan in 1945. Shipped to the US in November that year for testing. Allocated US military test serial FE-300 / TE-300. This seems to have been one of the earliest of Ed Maloney’s acquisitions, reportedly joining his collection as early as 1948. Still with his collection now, it remains on display in the ‘Foreign’ hangar at the Planes of Fame Museum, Chino, California, USA.
