Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Rim of Kawah Putih (White Crater). Kawah Putih is a crater lake and tourist spot in a volcanic crater in Ciwidey, south of Bandung, West Java, Indonesia, 2,430 meters above sea level, at the top of Mount Patuha, an andesitic stratovolcano. It is said to have been discovered in 1837 by Franz Wilhelm Junghuhn, and was opened to visitors in 1987. The water itself is highly acid which changes colour from bluish to whitish green, or brown, depending on the concentration of sulfur and the temperature or the oxidation state, similar to Kelimutu lake which is located in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). The sand and rocks surrounding the lake have been also leached into whitish colours through interaction with the acidic lake waters (with possible mineral precipitation as well). You can easily spot what the locals call Cantigi (Vaccinium varingiaefolium) and Lemo (Litsea cubeba L.) grow all over the place there.
