The work of uncovering steadily goes on, and manyvaluable finds in the way of sculpture,instruments, etc., are found in many ofthe houses as they are uncovered. Suffice it to say that I had anexperience with both Vesuvius and hu-man nature which wrould tend to makeme lose some confidence in both. Constantinople is the home of the dog.It is estimated that from three to sevenmillion dogs make their home in thisbeautiful-appearing city, but one of themost abominable places once you enterit. Filth indescribable, streets so narrow,steep and crooked that they seem to goeverywhere and at last nowhere.
