ion of the ordinarynegro girl of the South is considered. I wish to add in this connection thatthe behavior of the Tuskegee students,so far as a visitor can judge, is most ex- cellent. The citizens of Tuskegee speakof their conduct in the most favorablemanner. The records made by thosethat have gone out from the institutionprove that they know how to behave. These students have such reputation forgood conduct and usefulness that of the525 young men leaving the school at theclose of the year for vacation, prac-tically all of them had been engaged. One firm in Mississippi employed twen-ty-five students for the summer and senttheir railroad fare. Cleanliness in the students is main-tained to a nicety. This is true of thecondition in which the buildings are keptalso. The students are dressed neatlyand plainly in clothing made by studentsand with searching cleanliness. Thatodor, or smell, so common to the negro,is conspicuous for its absence.
