pin the Roman Catholic faith, and frommy earliest recollection this churchtaught me that the difference betweenthe Church of Rome and the Pro-testant Church in short was this:— That they worshiped the true and liv-ing God, and that the Protestants wor-shiped the devil. As I grew older my curiosity to seethe devil was aroused, for I was taughtthat he actually made his visible appearance in Protestant assemblies, when theywere engaged in worship to him. But this lie led me to the truth. It all cameabout in this way. God had His hand inthe matter and sent two Protestantmissionary sisters into the Italian quar-ters where a lot of us fellows wereplaying cards. They read a few versesfrom the Bible to us, and after a shortexplanation of the same, they offered ashort prayer and gave us an invitationto attend services at the Mission. It was near this time that Brother S.F. Sanger and Brother A. B. Barnhartcame to Brooklyn, New York, to organ-ize the ten members of the BrooklynMission into the First BrethrenChurch in this city. I attended someof the services but was not yet a mem-ber of the Brethrens Church, howeverJesus was rapidly leading me out of darkness into His marvelous light.
