Description

No dia 17 de julho, a cidade de Olinda foi abençoada numa celebração que marcou o encerramento da festa de Nossa Senhora do Carmo, padroeira do Recife e de Pernambuco.

A Igreja do Carmo em Olinda é a mais antiga igreja da Ordem Carmelita no Brasil e a mais antiga das Américas, datando de 1580, onde o altar-mor se destaca entre outros pontos, pela imagem de Nossa Senhora do Carmo. Foi restaurada depois de 17 anos, por uma parceria entre o Instituto do Patrimônio Histórico Nacional (Iphan), o BNDES e a Prefeitura de Olinda.
