Ligado à construção do caminho-de-ferro na Beira Alta, Manuel Emídio da Silva era engenheiro e professor no Liceu da Guarda, cidade onde seria correspondente entre 1887 e 1888 do Diário de Notícias. Já a viver em Lisboa, manteria uma coluna, no referido jornal, até 1936. No espaço que intitularia de "Coisas e Loiças" escrevia regularmente sobre a implantação do Turismo em Portugal. Das palavras que escreveu, da sua ligação à Sociedade de Propaganda de Portugal, fundada em 1908, bem como do conjunto de descrições geográficas constantes dos livros "Quatro Dias na Serra da Estrela", de Sousa Martins, "Guia do Viajante do Buçaco", de Augusto Simões de Castro, "Guia de Portugal", coordenado por Raúl Proença ou "Jornadas em Portugal", de Antero de Figueiredo, nasce a sua ligação a Penacova, local onde, por sua iniciativa, seria inaugurado em 31 de Maio de 1908, o Mirante Emídio da Silva. Da autoria de Nicolau Bigaglia, prestigiado arquitecto veneziano que se fixa em Portugal a partir da década de 1880, o Mirante assemelha-se a um pagode oriental construído na proa mais avançada da escarpa. Vitorino Nemésio escrevia que dali parecia estar "a ver a catedral do púlpito" e, de facto, dali, junto do que outrora foi o Castelo e a Capela de Nossa Senhora da Guia, e sob as colunas de pedra originárias do Mosteiro de Lorvão, a paisagem avassala-nos, de tão magnífica. <a href="http://www.cm-penacova.pt/pt/pages/manuelemidiosilva" rel="noreferrer nofollow">www.cm-penacova.pt/pt/pages/manuelemidiosilva</a> |
