ASHE COUNTY NORTH CAROLINA 56 ASHE BAPTIST ASSOCIATION REPORT TO THE ASSOCIATIONS 1983THE BIBLICAL RECORDER The Biblical Recorder is celebrating 150 years of service toNorth Carolina Baptists. Founded by Thomas Meredith whilehe was pastor of the Edenton Baptist Church, the Recorder is thefourth olders among the 34 state Baptist papers in the SouthernBaptist Covention, exceeded in age only by Georgia, Kentuckyand Virginia papers. The past twelve months have been a time of transition for theRecorder. R. G. Puckett become editor upon the retirement ofMarse Grant in September, 1982. Lawrence E. High came asmanaging editor of the Recorder from the editorship of TheMaryland Baptist. Puckett is the only man in Southern Baptistlife to have served four different state Baptist papers. High andPuckett are the only team of editors who have both served aseditors of other state papers before coming to North Carolina. The cost of second-class postage threatened the very survivalof the state Baptist
