[edit]DescriptionMinskip 2 September 2023 (46).JPG |
On the occasion of the 2023 Scarecrow competition, in the village of Minskip, North Yorkshire, England. Villagers are invited to create a scarecrow inspired by a theme, this year's theme being 100 Years of Disney. They are non-commercial artworks, made to the villagers' own designs, and displayed along the main street in the village. The competition attracts tourists, who are invited to donate to the upkeep of St John's Church, Minskip. A certain housholder exhibited no scarecrow this year. Their exhibit was probably fortuitous, although it appeared to have been intentionally placed. Just as in the the late 1960s London gallery exhibition of conceptual art by Yoko Ono, here was a real apple simply placed on top of a pedestal (in this case a Victorian gatepost), and left there for visitors to view the beauty of its natural changes as it rotted (see Apple). This one was outdoors, so even better than Yoko Ono's, as it was full of wasps, which could be watched at their work. Anyone walking past so many exhibits referencing Disney characters would notice this and think of the poisoned apple in the film Snow White. Zoom in, and you can glimpse the antennae and legs of a wasp inside the apple. |
