Description
English: Miniature oil portrait on ivory of Henry Kayser. Kayser was a German immigrant who came to St. Louis in 1833. He worked as assistant engineer to Robert E. Lee on the project to survey and improve the harbor and the rapids at Des Moines and Rock Island in the Mississippi. He also served as city engineer and city comptroller.
