Title
Miniature Hammer of Uncertain Medieval to early Modern Date
Description
English: A cast copper-alloy miniature hammer of uncertain date, probably dating to either the Post Medieval or early Modern period (c. 1600-1850 AD). It is possible that this miniature was used as a toy, however an exact parallel has not been found. The miniature hammer consists of a long handle with a pierced circular hole at one end; at the other end is the hammerhead, which is decorated to suggest both head and claw. The handle is oval in cross-section, whereas the hammerhead is sub-rectangular in cross-section, save for the head itself, which is circular in cross-section. It measures 35.26 mm long, 12.86 mm wide, 5.36 mm thick and weighs 3.83 grams. Forsyth and Egan (2005), discuss a large range of miniature objects, including tools; however no hammer are included in the publication (see reference below).
