[edit]DescriptionMines de Fer de Saint Etienne 1826.jpg |
English: Stock certificate for 1,500 francs of the Compagnie des Mines de Fer de St. Étienne, issued on 1 July 1826. Thanks to the significant coal deposits in the Saint-Etienne basin, French heavy metallurgy began here. From November 1822 to January 1823, the factory produced 12 tonnes of cast iron and employed 150 people. The company was managed by the eminent mining engineer Louis de Gallois, and from 1823 by the director Délévacque (who also signed this share in his own hand). The company's capital increase in 1826 failed: of the 500 shares issued, only 326 were subscribed. This capital was not enough to improve the company's situation. In 1832 the company was liquidated for lack of capital. The company's assets were publicly auctioned on 11 May 1835.
