Summary
[edit]DescriptionMine drainage adit portal, Wheal Crebor, Lumburn valley, near Tavistock - geograph.org.uk - 64083.jpg |
English: Mine drainage adit portal, Wheal Crebor, Lumburn valley, near Tavistock. This adit portal, photograped in winter 1978, is situated at the foot of the mineworking tip (seen in top right of picture). The tips are marked on the OS 1:25k map just north of Shillamill, so I guess it should still be there in 2005. The water from the adit joins an overflow leat from the Tavistock canal itself about 100 m west of the adit. The canal enters the tunnel under Morwel Down another 100 m further west. The canal tunnel excavation was part funded in the expectation that workable copper ore would be found. Wheal Crebor was indeed the result, but the mine was not very productive. |
