Historische Spaziergänge Infrastruktur und Versorgung - Mindener Straßenbahn

Etwa an der Stelle dieses Schienenstranges befand sich die Haltestelle „Kaak“ der Mindenr Straßenbahn. Der öffentliche Personennahverkehr mit einem Verkehrsmittel, das für eine Stadt dieser Größe ungewöhnlich war, begann 1893 mit der Gründung der Mindener Straßenbahngesellschaft. Die ersten dampfbetriebenen Straßenbahnen transportierten auf der Strecke Lindenstraße - Kaiserhof in Porta Westfalica Ausflügler und Pendler. 1920 wurde der Betrieb elektrifiziert Die „Elektrische“ fuhr zunächst auf den Strecken Markt - Porta und Markt - Bahnhof. Später verband die Straßenbahn daüber hinaus die Innenstadt mit Dützen (seit 1925), den Nordfriedhof (1928) und Meißen (1930). Nach mehr als 60 Betriebsjahren stellte die Mindener Straßenbahn 1959 ihre Fahrten ein.
