Commodore II ( 1948): A wooden hulled, four-masted schooner launched in Seattle in 1919 as the Blaatind, this ship had a varied career, first as a schooner, then as a private yacht, fishing barge and, during World War II, as a coal hulk for the British Ministry of War Transport in Saldanha Bay. After the war she was towed to Cape Town and re-rigged as a schooner to carry coal to South America and return with timber. She only made one such voyage in 1946, and was stripped of most of her timbers and beached between Woodstock and Milnerton in 1948. Here she caught fire and burned for two weeks. Her remains are visible on the beach in front of the Milnerton Lagoon Mouth complex.
