Description
English: Millerite
Locality: Lehigh Portland Cement County Quarry, Mitchell, Lawrence County, Indiana, USA (Locality at mindat.org)
Size: 3.7 x 3.5 x 2.2 cm
(largest). A showy and excellent broken limestone geode with a shapely, elongate vug lined with very bright and brassy millerite needles. One half of the vug contains nearly all of the millerite needles and makes for an aesthetic pair. The specimen comes from a RARE, for the species, Indiana locality - the Lehigh Quarry in Mitchell. This limestone quarry opened in 1901 and is now closed. HIGHLY REPRESENTATIVE for the species and locality. Ex. Richard Hauck Collection.
