ver somemark or indication in the passage-way to correspond,and thus prove the date of the Pyramids constru6tion, andthe corre61;ness of the inch-year theory. This, though notunreasonable, was a crucial test, and the service of a civilengineer was obtained to visit the Pyramid again and makevery accurate measurements of passages, etc. This was in1872, and the report of this gentleman was confirmatoryto the last degree. His measurements show the floor-linejust described to be 21701^ inches to ^ very finely 7uledline in the walls of the Entrance Passage. Thus thedate of its construction is doubly attested, while the floor-lines of its passages are shown to be scrolls of history andchronology, which shall yet be generally heard as a wit-ness unto the Lord in the land of Egypt. Here, thanks to the very accurate measurements of allthe passages, furnished by Prof. Smyth, we are enabledto reach what to us are by far the most interesting featuresof the testimony of this Witness, yet dehvered.
