with the floor of the Grand Gallery at itslower end, there starts a Horizontal Passage under it,which leads to a little room commonly termed the QueensChamber. At the upper end of the Grand Galleryis another low passage-way leading into a little room calledthe Ante-Chamber which is of very peculiar construc-tion, and which to some has suggested the idea of a school—a place for instru6tion and testing. But the chief room of the Pyramid, for both size andimportance of location, is a little farther along, and sepa-rated from the Ante-Chamber by another low passage-way.This room is known as the Kings Chamber. Over itare a number of small apartments called Constru6lionChambers. The significance of these, if they have anysignificance, relates not to man, nor to any other creaturewhich walks, but to spirit beings; for it will be observedfrom the diagram that though the sides and the top aresquared and finished, there is no floor surface to any ofthem. The Kings Chamber contains a Coffer or

The Great Pyramid. 329 stone box, the only piece of furniture found in the GreatPyramid. Ventilation is provided for in the KingsChamber by two air-passages which pierce its walls onopposite sides and extend to the outer surface—left forthis purpose by the builders. It has been speculated by somethat there are yet other rooms and passages for future dis-covery, but we do not share this opinion : to us it seems thatthe passages already discovered fully serve the divinely-intended purpose in witnessing to the entire plan of God,as revealed in the Scriptures. Prom the west side of the lower or north end of the GrandGallery, extending downward, there is an irregular passagecalled the Well, leading into the descending EntrancePassage. Its route passes through a grotto in the naturalrock. The conne6lion between this passage and the GrandGallery is very disordered. It would appear that orig-inally the passage-way into the Queens Chamber hadbeen concealed, being covered by the flooring slab
