Title
Mill and pinstock water wheel, Pine City, Washington, circa 1885
Description
Original flour mill with pinstock water wheel or flume was built by Anderson Edwards in 1881. Edwards had borrowed the money from Andrew Jackson Smith and was unable to make payments so Smith took over ownership and operation. In 1893-94 Smith could see the old mill was out of date since people wanted white flour. Smith finished the New Era Rolling Mill in 1897. He sold the mill to the railroad in 1905-07 as it was in the path of construction of the railroad. Source: From Abbieville to Zion by Edith E. Erickson and Smith Bros. History of Andrew J.
