Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Opened in 2001, the creation of this park is the result of archaeological excavations at the site carried out in the 1980s and stabilization of the remains of several industrial buildings starting in 1998. The park interprets the remains of the Minneapolis Eastern Railroad trestle, as well as the Pillsbury Elevator B, Alaska Mill, and other buildings formerly in the Pillsbury B Mill Complex that once stood on the site, which was demolished in stages between 1931 and 1969. The park interprets the ruins to help communicate the story of the importance of milling at Saint Anthony Falls to the early development and growth of Minneapolis, allowing it to become the major city it is today. The park also allows the viewing of tail races and the waterpower canal that provided hydropower to mills in the area around the falls, which have had water flow restored. The ruins are contributing archaeological resources in the Saint Anthony Falls Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1971.
