Description
English: Mill Lane, Reading, looking eastwards down St. Giles's Mill Stream, c. 1900. The bridge to the timber yard of Baynes and Company crosses the stream in the middle of the picture, and behind it, the water-tower with its pumping-station and chimney, part of the old water-works, and St. Giles's Mill. In Mill Lane can be seen advertising for Appleton, plumber and glazier; No. 61 (Sidney Streek, shopkeeper), and No. 67 (Joseph Hope, undertaker). Men and boys are fishing in the stream. 1900-1909 : photograph by Walton Adams. Postcard versions at Dynix 1220855 and 1220856.
