The riders on the extreme left in red jerseys would have been in the Soviet Union team. THis was a 112km stage at the end of May. The 1985 race was won by the Belgian Eric van Lancker (Fangio team). Other famous riders in the race that year were Paul Curran (GB) Paul Watson GB,Tomas Kirsipuu (USSR) (probably Estonian) Some good pictures on Paul Curran's site here Elliott would have been in the Raleigh-Weinmann team. THis day's stage was won by the Czechoslovakian born Australian Kvetoslav Palov from Knickman and Kirsipuu. The next day, Phil Bayton won the Ipswich criterium from the American, Roy Knickman and Malcolm Elliott. On the left, riders no. 113 and 107 from the USSR (?) team. Perhaps someone has an old programme to identify them??? |
