neir833 conserva due capitelli: dopo il mille (anzi, secondo alcuni, nel XIV secolo) fu rimaneggiata. Oggi — dopo i restauri del 1885-1888 — si presenta a tre navate divise da colonne con tre absidi a nicchiette a fornici e archetti spartiti da lesene come in S. Ambrogio, le muraglie dei fianchi e della fronte nude; le-facciate anteriore e posteriore presentano gli archetti pensili ricorrenti lungo il de-

clivio del tetto e la finestruccia crociforme che si osservano in diverse chiese di tipo lombardo. Un'alta cripta si stende sotto il presbiterio. Invece la chiesa di S. Satiro, sorta per cura dell'arcivescovo Ansperto nellSyg, di minore interesse quale oggi si presenta rifatta dopo il mille e trasformata nel Rinascimento, è a vòlte semisferiche nelle absidi, a botte nelle corte braccia della croce ed a crociera con spigoli molto marcati negli spazi risaltanti fra gli angoli del quadrato perimetrale e le colonne; ma il suo campanile è il prototipo dei campanili lombardi. drato, in mattoni, diviso in quattro piani da cornici di denti a sega sorrette da archettini pensili di cui il primo e l'ultimo poggiano sulle fasce d'angolo, coperto di tetto a quattro spioventi, con feritoia e strombatura interna nel primo piano, monofore nel secondo, bifore nel terzo e nel quarto.

La chiesa di S. Babila, sorta al principio del mille, offriva già piloni lombardi a fascio, che spartiscono le tre navi e reggono gli archi longitudinali e i trasversali cingenti le vòlte a botte della navata di mezzo e con gli archi trasversali reggenti le vòlte a vela delle navi minori.
