Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The Midtown Apartments, 1661 Main Street, Buffalo, New York, October 2020. Built in 1916, this six-story, 88,000-square-foot former warehouse building consists of a robust concrete structural skeleton encased and further reinforced by brick curtain walls a foot thick. The original occupant was the Dye Storage Warehouse Company, which specialized in furniture storage, though after the Depression the company began leasing space in the building to other commercial and manufacturing concerns, most notably the Electric Storage Battery Company. Dye was still in business as of 1960 but was bought out some time later by Allied Household Storage. The building was purchased in 2015 by a development partnership to be converted into a 50-unit apartment complex with ground-floor retail space, construction of which was nearing completion at the time this photo was taken.
