Summary
[edit]DescriptionMidland Metro line entering Wolverhampton terminus - geograph.org.uk - 1456535.jpg |
English: Midland Metro line entering Wolverhampton terminus Viewed through the large metal structure, known locally as the "wishbone bridge". This carries the tramway over the sunken landscaped walkways inside the large roundabout road system. http://www.tgp.co.uk/news/articles/wishbone.html The terminus (Wolverhampton St George's) is about a further hundred metres on. The approaching tram (No 15) has just started its run to Birmingham.
The Midland Metro opened on 30th May 1999. It is a 12½ mile tram-line between Wolverhampton and Birmingham with a short on-street section in Wolverhampton, the rest following the former Great Western Railway trackbed (closed in 1972). The trams are powered by 750 volt DC electric current supplied though overhead power cables. |
