Title |
Middle Iron Age Unidentified Object (illustration by Jason Gibbons) |
||
Description |
English: Incomplete Iron Age copper alloy object: of three round-sectioned joining arms only one is complete. It curves to a globular terminal which is decorated with moulded knobs, grooves and two small blind holes. Of the other two arms one is little more than a stump (perhaps newly broken) while the other has begun to curve before the old break. On one face of the junction there are strong ribbed mouldings, some decorated with transverse grooves, and on the other a large round blind hole or socket that might once have held a boss in another material. Scuffing has removed the patinated surface in several places. The decoration shows some similarity to that on some Middle Iron Age brooches (e.g. Hull and Hawkes 1987, plate 43). Extant length and width 27 and 26.5mm. Perhaps 3rd century BC. |
