Description
English: Fragment of an Early to Middle Saxon enamelled copper alloy escutcheon plate from a hanging bowl. Discoidal, less than a quarter survives, flat-sectioned with a broken inner rim or flange bordering the large inner perforation. The face of the mount has the remains of a running swirl with interior triskele terminals from a trumpet-spiral, reserved on a field of decayed, now white enamel, with tiny flecks of red. Diam. 40mm. Internal diam. c.14mm. 2mm thick, 4mm at internal flange. Weighs 2.60 g. Cf. Bruce-Mitford 2005, 199, fig.218. 7th century
