Title |
microcore (profile showing platform) |
||
Description |
English: A flint single-platform micro-core, rhomboidal in plan and profile, and plano-convex in section. A large patch of cortex remains on the dorsal face. The proximal end is flat and is the remnant of the striking platform. The ventral face retains the scars of three long linear flakes having been removed from the core, together with several shorter, narrower flakes. The fragment shows no signs of having been retouched or otherwise utilised and was apparently discarded as waste at the completion of the knapping process. The flint is fine-textured, and a light grey-brown colour, with one large and one smaller cream-coloured patch of slightly coarser material, and was probably derived from a local beach pebble.
Bond (2004) illustrates a similar microblade core on page 120, fig.5.104, no.79, dated from the later Mesolithic period. Butler (2005) illustrates a similar single-platform bladelet core on page 85, fig.30, no.3, which dates from the Mesolithic period. |
