Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Mickleover: the former Great Northern Railway station building
Mickleover was on the Great Northern Railway's Derbyshire Lines, built in the 1870s to link Nottingham to Derby and the North Staffordshire Railway at Egginton Junction, and to collieries in the Leen and Erewash valleys. All the intermediate station buildings, from Gedling east of Nottingham to Egginton, were of the same rather austere design, except for Basford North (built of stone rather than red brick) and Awsworth (which was smaller, and wooden). The owners have added porches since Ralph Rawlinson took SK3035 : Mickleover station, Derby in January 2004. The dormers on the single-storey waiting-rooms section are also new since the railway closed, and the pointed-arched end window is half its original height.
