JPEG file comment | MICHELANGELO Buonarroti
(b. 1475, Caprese, d. 1564, Roma) Sitting Nude Figures 1508-09 Black chalk, partly reworked in pen and brown ink, 414 x 270 mm Casa Buonarroti, Florence On the present sheet Michelangelo experimented with various postures for the Ignudi on the Sistine Chapel ceiling. The largest figure can be connected with the Ignudo to the left above the Cumaean Sibyl. The fragment of an entablature was probably a preliminary drawing for an unrealised decorative detail on one of the capitals.
