Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The Michał Dekowski House, 470 Sweet Avenue, Buffalo, New York, June 2020. One of a very few surviving residential commissions by architect Władysław Zawadzki, the house (much like the also Zawadzki-designed Sprada House on Playter Street) is in a style quite different from the French Renaissance template he used in his usual oeuvre, a two-and-a-half story wood-framed dwelling with simple Queen Anne detailing (asymmetrical façade, polygonal bay window on the second floor, full-length porch with balustrade). Dating to 1908, the house was built as home to Michał Dekowski (1863-1927), a Wygoda, Poland-born iron molder-turned-foreman with the Pratt & Letchworth company who immigrated to the U.S. with his wife Mariana, son John, and baby daughter Helena in 1890 and settled first in Pittsburgh, then moved to Buffalo sometime in the middle of the first decade of the 20th century; he lived in the house until his death.
