"En la esquina de Paseo de la Reforma y París, a un costado de donde hoy está el Senado, se encuentra el antiguo Hotel Reforma, el cual fue inaugurado en diciembre de 1936 y fue el más elegante de su época en la Ciudad de México, con innovadoras instalaciones como un roof garden, amplias habitaciones y un memorable centro nocturno llamado Ciro’s. Hoy se encuentra cerrado y se usa esporádicamente para eventos, como presentaciones de teléfonos celulares o activaciones de marcas de cerveza. Sin embargo, conserva sus detalles art decó, como su marquesina, y su fachada con tezontle. Este edificio no es completamente obra de Mario Pani, sino que el proyecto llegó a él por dedazo. Resulta que inicialmente era del arquitecto Carlos Obregón, el creador del Monumento a la Revolución, quien trabajaba con el exministro de Hacienda Alberto J. Pani, tío de Mario. A sus 22 años, Mario estaba regresando a México después de terminar sus estudios de arquitectura en Francia, y el exfuncionario le pidió a Carlos Obregón que integrara a su sobrino a su equipo; sin embargo, el joven recibió malos tratos del experimentado arquitecto (bisnieto de Benito Juárez). Esto enfureció a Don Alberto y, por dedazo, le dejó el proyecto a su sobrino, creando una gran enemistad con el arquitecto Obregón. Hoy, aunque ya tuvo algunas remodelaciones, este edificio catalogado por el INBA por su valor artístico y que fuera el primer hotel de gran lujo en la ciudad durante el siglo 20, luce grafiteado y descarapelado, sin la “R” en la parte alta de su fachada que lo caracterizó por años y sin noticias de qué se hará con él." <a href="https://www.chilango.com/ciudad/mario-pani-cuatro-obras-olvidadas/" rel="noreferrer nofollow">www.chilango.com/ciudad/mario-pani-cuatro-obras-olvidadas/</a> |
