Description
English: Left side of picture:

Northern Yucatan's climate is tropical, dry from November to April and rainy in the summer, during which rainfall averages 1 meter. Kabah lacks permanent water sources, this creates a total dependence on rainfall, underground reservoirs called chultunes in Yucatec Mayan, were constructed. Runoff was directed to a round area, slightly slanted toward the chultunes 6 m. wide intake. Due to its location in front of the facade of masks of the rain god Chaac, this chultun must have been a highly symbolic and ritualistic one. At present it is restored and fully functional.

Right side of picture:

The Codz Poop's Altar of Glyphs is a structure with a square layout, 6.5 m. on each side. It is interesting because its four faces all have carved, bas-relief glyphs. The inscription work was not done until the altar was built, since some of the glyphs take up more than a single stone. The outlining of the glyphs is quite rough compared to other inscriptions at Kabah. In the mid-19th century the altar had already been destroyed and looted. This inscription's message has not yet been entirely deciphered.
