| Description |
English: (1 of a 12-picture set) If we had not missed the turn from highway 163 to Monument Valley, we would not have seen Mexican Hat, Ut. It was a place without many occupants (only 88), but its setting along the San Juan River was quite spectacular. This water is coming down from the San Juan Mountains near Durango, CO. (The San Juans are the southern portion of the Rocky Mountains.) This river has crossed nearly 400 miles of rough country making its way from Southwestern Colorado down to Lake Powell, where it will become part of the Colorado River after being impounded by the Glen Canyon Dam. |
