Description
English: (1 in a multiple picture set)

At the Rimmy Jim's exit off of Int. 40 in AZ, west of Winslow, is a sign for Meteor Crater. It is 6 miles off the highway, and you won't see much until you park and walk to the rim. Then an amazing sight opens up to you. You will be standing at the edge of the best preserved (and one of the largest) impact craters in the world. (The scientific name for it is Barringer Crater.)
The crater is 3/4 of a mile wide and 550 feet deep. Can you imagine the power of the impacting meteor 50,000 years ago? The crater is so large that this shot only captures about 1/2 of it.

Ladies, bring your scarves. The wind blows mightily there at the rim. They even sell T-shirts that say, 'I survived the wind at Meteor Crater.' Some of the training for the astronauts going to the moon was done here.
