[edit]DescriptionMesserschmitt Bf109G-14 (Replica) (51766723990).jpg |
The Museum’s Bf 109G-14 is a full-scale wood model constructed by George N. Lucas of Rochester, New York, completed in August 1978. In 1981 Lucas donated the model to the Dominguez Rancho Adobe Museum in Carson, California. They, in turn, donated it to the March Air Force Base Museum in California. The San Diego Air & Space Museum acquired it from the March Air Force Base Museum in 1983. Our Museum’s model is representative of the Messerschmitt Bf 109G-14 flown by Luftwaffe ace Erich Hartmann. During the fall of 1944, at the age of 22, Major Hartmann became Gruppenkommandeur (Group Commander) of Jagdgruppe 52, with three squadrons under his command. By war’s end, he was the world’s highest scoring ace with 352 claimed aerial victories. |
